VAL DI FIEMME ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY

Tesero (Trento), Italia
2015
Francesca Oss, Ziano di Fiemme (Trento)
The Val di Fiemme Astronomical Observatory, situated in the Italian province of Trento was created by the Associazione Astrofili Tesero to introduce as many people as possible to the wonders of the universe. When the architect Francesca Oss was commissioned with furnishing the lecture room she chose Corian® Glacier White to create the sinuous white monoliths that dominate the interior space. Immersed in darkness like the islands of some unknown planet, they accompany visitors on their discovery of the marvels of outer space. The two desks with plywood structures created by a carpenter serve as both a reception counter and as a lectern for speakers. The thermoformability of Corian® allowed the structures to be fully clad without any visible joints and to achieve soft and simultaneously fluid surfaces.
